Charity blues concert

We partner with Rotary Algiers Espérance to organize a charity blues concert whose profits will go towards the renovation of a cultural center in a small village in High Kabylia.

The event is also supported by the Rotary Paris Haussmann as well as by the’Rotary Club for the Francophonie – the latter being in charge of ticketing via HelloAsso (below).

It will take place at the Salle Cortot, renowned for its excellent acoustics, intimate atmosphere, and exceptional wood-paneled interior.

Karim Albert Kook

A Franco-Algerian guitarist, singer, and songwriter, he blends traditional blues, modernity, and North African influences. Born in Algiers and settled in France after treatment for polio, he discovered the blues in his teens and began his career at a very young age. Recognized for his musical fusion and his commitment to disability visibility, he performs on French and international stages.

His discography includes Les choses ressemblent à ça (1997, duet with Luther Allison), Je roule vers toi (1999), and Barbès City Limit Blues (2002), inspired by his travels to the United States and his North African roots. In 2019, he released Il était un voyage, featuring a notable duet with Bill Deraime. In 2025, he recorded Roots of Blues with Édouard Bineau, revisiting blues classics with resonator guitar, slide, and harmonica, released by Label Team.

On stage, he performed at New Morning, Petit Journal Montparnasse, and Palais des Congrès, where he shared the bill with BB King for the benefit of Rotary International's PolioPlus program, and participated in the Montreal World Arab Festival. He also gave concerts in Algiers to promote Barbès City Limit Blues. Based in Normandy, he carries out disability awareness activities, including workshops in primary schools in Vernon.

Action in detail

Mechtras is a small village in Haute Kabylie, perched on the Djurdjura mountains, located 150 km from Algiers. Its cultural center, consisting of a very large hall, requires renovation work.

This center is managed solely by the village committee and has no financial means other than some assistance from villagers.

A portion of the center is used as a training center for sewing work for the village women, hence the need to equip it with sewing machines.
