Artaud – Creation & Madness
At the crossroads of art, theater, and mental health, this dinner conference offers an immersion into the incandescent world of’Antonin Artaud, a major figure of the 20th century, whose work continues to question the boundaries between creation, madness, and society.
The meeting is led by Julie Louart, director (SACD – SNMS) and director of Company of CriArts. His work, at the crossroads of performance, transmission, and social engagement, is part of an artistic approach deeply linked to contemporary issues of inclusion and mental health.
The speaker
Julie Louart is an artistic director, stage director, and educator. Trained at Cours Florent, the Amiens Regional Conservatory of Theater, holding a degree in Performing Arts, and trained in production, management, and distribution (AFDAS), she places transmission and artistic research at the heart of her work. A laureate of the Philanthro-Lab, a support program dedicated to projects with social and cultural impact, she develops projects at the intersection of creation, performance, and engagement.
His latest major creation, //ARTAUD//, currently in progress and scheduled for 2027, received the Performance Award at the 2025 Independent Theater Laurels, where the project was also nominated in the Sound Design category. An incandescent work, which burns even before it is born.
She is currently developing a hybrid performance inspired by Artaud, performed by Nicolas Avinée, comedian who notably worked with Wes Anderson.
Supported by Philanthro Lab, this creation is accompanied by writers and specialists of Antonin Artaud, in connection with The Antonin Artaud Center. The project is also being monitored by William Cobbing, Olivier de Sagazan and Masaato Matsura.
The conference opens a space for sensitive and critical reflection on Artaud's legacy, the violence of social norms, and the cathartic power of art, inviting the public to rethink the notion of madness as a force of creation and lucidity.
The Alfred Sommier Hotel
This conference is the first we are organizing in the salons of the Hôtel Alfred Sommier, our new meeting venue after 20 years old passed through the Swedish Circle, a place also steeped in history.
The Alfred Sommier Hotel is located on rue de l'Arcade, a quiet street a stone's throw from the Madeleine. It is very easy to access, with five metro lines, ten bus lines, and two RER lines all within a 5-minute walk.
