My Blood For Others
In February 2023, we joined the hundred or so French clubs that organize regular blood drives. Mon Sang Pour Les Autres "including some fifteen in our District.
These blood drives are organized by Rotary clubs in close collaboration with the Etablissement Français du Sang.
Our blood drive takes place on the premises of ISC ParisIt's unique in that it's a private fund-raiser at a leading business school, aimed at students and work-study students. The audience is therefore very different from a public fund-raiser, with additional constraints but also unique opportunities.
Since the audience is young, most are first-time donors, meaning they are donating blood for the first time and thus reinforcing the EFS's usual donor base. During the collection, we focus our efforts on supporting and reassuring young people so that they take the plunge and become regular donors thereafter.
GIVE YOUR BLOOD IT'S SAVING LIVES
Put an end to preconceived ideas!
First-time donors, a crucial issue
Every year, 170,000 people leave the national contingent of blood donors because of medical contraindications or the age limit (70).
However, for each person who leaves, 1.5 new donors need to be recruited in order to obtain an equivalent number of annual donations: old donors donate more regularly than new ones.
We also need to respond appropriately to each individual need. With 500,000 transfusions a year in France, recruiting a wide range of blood types and phenotypes is essential to meet the needs of the entire population, despite genetic differences.
